Designed and built at M-Sport to FIA R1 regulations and aimed at those just starting out on their rallying career, the Ford Fiesta R1 forms the first step on the Ford’s ‘Ladder of Opportunity’ which allows competitors to graduate, with Ford, from national level right through to the WRC.
Reverse engineered from the Ford Fiesta R2 which has now sold in more than 27 countries around the world and forms the backbone of the FIA WRC Academy, the R1 is designed to use the majority of parts from the R2, allowing competitors to start in the R1 before updating their cars to MS1 and then R2 specification as experience and budget allows.
The Ford Fiesta MS1 has recently completed a comprehensive testing schedule of hundreds of KMs including tarmac, gravel at Greystoke Forest and finally as Course Car for the Grizedale Stages in the capable hands of 2011 Fiesta SportTrophy apprentice, Stephen Barker from New Zealand.
Work has now been completed on the first Ford Fiesta R1 to be built at M-Sport which will allow the engineering team to complete the comprehensive build manual in the New Year ahead of the FIA technical inspection planned for January 2012.
