Déjà 22 Fiesta vendues! :shock:

It was hardly surprising that the shift across to the S2000 category would accelerate before the start of the 2010 season. M-Sport in England recently confirmed that they have sold 22 Ford Fiesta S2000 cars for various regional and international rally series' and two of those cars will make their debuts in Qatar this week.

Article intéressant. Xevi Pons et Bernardo Sousa seront engagés en SWRC avec M-Sport comme écurie. Et ça semble de plus en plus sûr pour Andreas Mikkelsen.

Guest of honour at the Santiago de Compostela presentation of the international Ford sponsored Nupel rally team was M-Sport proprietor Malcolm Wilson. He was speaking about the remarkable challenge created by the Fiesta S2000 programme, with the cars being assembled in the rally team's workshops alongside the world championship cars. "M-Sport is very happy the way the S2000 programme is progressing. We can't believe that by this morning (15 January) we had 22 confirmed orders."
This is making for hectic work at M-Sport. The status is that we have had the two test and development cars, which will be used as rally cars at Monte Carlo, and the first two customer cars have just left the M-Sport factory to go to the Middle East for Khalid [Al Qassimi] and Nasser [Al Attiyah] to drive in the Qatar Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) event. Then another three cars will be delivered next week, including those for Janne Tuohino and Craig Breen. Homologation formalities were carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday (12 and 13 January) and everything went well with no unforeseen difficulties. We are eager to go to Monte Carlo, though indications at this time are that it probably won't be the clean dry rally we would have preferred at this time. Heavy snowfalls have badly restricted the amount of testing we have been able to do. We were hoping for a good day yesterday (Thursday) but we were only able to do about 150km".

Building cars is one matter, running them is quite another. "M-Sport is concentrating on selling the cars at this time. M-Sport themselves will run no more than four cars in the world championship. These will be supplied on a "arrive and drive" package system. This system will apply to Pons and Sousa and we are discussions about this with Mikklesen. We are speaking to other drivers about how they run the cars but M-Sport will limit their activities to running four cars. Over the years we have built up good relationship with a lot of private rally teams and we expect they will be running the other cars. Many of them are outside Britain. There are good teams everywhere". The first outside team to announced plans to run Fiesta S2000 is the Dutch company Symtech who will run a car for the Polish driver Michal Kosciuszko.

The challenge of arranging for M-Sport to supply cars to be available at the start of the season comes with a special human background to it. Wilson: "For us it is a welcome story after the sadness from the disastrous floods in the region before Christmas. Fortunately the factory and my home were not affected, but not only has traffic in the area been badly disrupted but I suppose there must be a half-dozen members of our staff have lost their homes. The devastation is all very sad. I was born in Cockermouth, the worst hit area.. To see so much of the history of the town just gone. Old traditional walls bridges and buildings are not there any more, just disappeared. The building stones are just not there any more. Rebuilding the town is going to be a massive exercise."

Par contre il y a eu un petit soucis sur celle à Khalid Al-Qassimi et les 2 Fiesta ont été re-vérifiées par soucis de sécurité.

Le rallye du Qatar débutera demain. Ce sera le premier rallye gravier pour la Fiesta S2000. :wink:

Et ben elle se débrouille pas trop mal au Qatar, la Fiesta S2000.

Scratch de Nasser Al-Attiyah dans les spéciales 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 et 8. Et à chaque fois 2ème temps pour Khalid Al-Qassimi, sauf dans les spéciales 6 et 7 où c'est l'inverse. :mrgreen:

A la fin de la 1ère journée, Al-Qassimi est à 32sec d'Al-Attiyah et le 3ème est déjà à plus de 3min.

Elle est décidément bien née cette Fiesta S2000: 2ème rallye, 2ème victoire. :mrgreen:

Après Mikko Hirvonen au Monte Carlo, c'est au tour de Nasser Al-Attiyah de mener la Fiesta S2000 sur la première marche du podium au rallye du Qatar.

Cette seconde journée a cependant été plus difficile: une crevaison lors de l'ES9 lui faisait perdre la tête du rallye au profit de Khalid Al-Qassimi. Ce dernier a toutefois eu moins de chance puisque de multiples crevaisons lui faisaient perdre du temps dans l'ES12 puis le forçaient à l'abandon dans l'ES13.

Nasser Al-Attiyah remporte donc le rallye avec plus de 6min d'avance sur le second! :shock:

A noter également que sur les 14 spéciales du rallye, seule la dernière n'a pas été remportée par l'une ou l'autre des deux Fiesta S2000. :wink:

On ne peut pas rêver mieux comme début de carrière. Bravo à Christian Loriaux et à toute l'équipe M-Sport pour leur fabuleuse voiture. :mrgreen:

Espérons que le succès continue comme ça.

Les 2 miss roulent pour le moment en Fiesta R2 mais apparemment il n'est pas exclu qu'elles se retrouvent un jour en Fiesta S2000. :wink:

Martin Prokop a reçu sa Fiesta S2000. :mrgreen:

Le prochain sur la liste est Craig Breen qui recevra sa Fiesta vendredi. Il participera au Galway Rally la semaine prochaine.

D'après un récent communiqué de M-Sport, ils auraient également vendu des Fiesta S2000 en Italie et en Afrique du Sud. Apparemment Sasol/Konica Minolta Team en a acheté une pour participer au championnat sud-africain mais l'info n'a pas été confirmée. Par contre, aucune info concernant l'Italie.

Un autre Tchèque, Jaromír Tarabus, participera au championnat tchèque au volant d'une Fiesta S2000.

Voici des photos de la présentation officielle de la Fiesta à Martin Prokop. Il l'inaugurera prochainement au rallye de Suède.

A noter que la Fiesta de Jaromír Tarabus aura une déco similaire. Il devrait la recevoir en mars pour le Valašská Rally, premier rallye du championnat tchèque.
