Engine builder Cosworth and works team M-Sport have been working on a revised version of the two-litre turbo unit to meet the drivers’ demands for better response and torque at low revs. The intention is that the latest specification will be adopted when the rally starts on Thursday night, but although lead driver Markko Martin likes the changes, the team is determined to make sure that the revised Duratec unit is reliable before using it in competition.
“We are still looking into it. We are running a test in Dovenby on the transient dyno,” M-Sport Technical Director Christian Loriaux explained.
Compression ratio, camshaft timing and electronic settings have all been changed on the latest engine.
